Most extremely rare occurrences are said to happen ‘once in a blue moon’. Well this week’s blue moon must be having a residual effect on Las Vegas, because in a practically unprecedented event this morning at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, two very different fanboy and fangirl worlds collided. The world’s most popular superstar au jour, the Lady GaGa herself, swept into Sin City this morning to make two major announcements…in Tech.
Her first endeavor would be as the new spokeswoman and “Creative Director” of the Polaroid brand. Seeing as Polaroid the company has been defunct for years now, some say this is a fictitious position, but with Lady GaGa at the helm, I’m sure we’ll see some interesting things coming out from them soon. She sat down with MSNBC later to explain.
Her next adventure was a bit more of a spectacle, however. Fans and reporters alike lined up nearly two hours in advance for an appearance from the Lady at the Monster Cable booth inside the convention hall. She was scheduled to make an announcement at noon, but didn’t take the stage until after 12:30.
Those who waited finally got a brief but informative announcement from GaGa, who explained that her line of headphones, Heartbeats, which she produced with Dr. Dre, would be getting a Product (RED) upgrade. She collaborated with U2 lead Bono to make sure that the proceeds from every pair of (RED) headphones would be donated to various AIDS Foundations across Africa. Watch the AP video below.
